C1 conversational version

In the latest season of Reacher, unlike in earlier seasons, his enemies are really well trained, so the fights feel less predictable. In the finale, Reacher is badly wounded, but he manages to throw one of the Indonesian women out of a window. Afterward, he staggers outside, collapses in the street from blood loss, and loses consciousness.

Then, however, a previously defeated enemy suddenly shows up with a gun and tries to kill Reacher. He is quickly killed by the Indonesian woman whom Reacher had thrown out of the window earlier. To me, that whole twist felt extremely contrived and unrealistic. After that, Reacher wakes up in the hospital.

My preferred ending would be much simpler: skip the extra gunman and the Indonesian woman's return, and go straight from Reacher collapsing to him waking up in the hospital. It would be cleaner, more believable, and more effective.

One expression I'd especially keep from this exercise is “the twist felt contrived.” It's very natural when discussing movies or TV shows where something seems to happen merely because the writers wanted one more dramatic surprise.

plot twist - A plot twist is a radical, unexpected change in the direction or expected outcome of a story, movie, play, or even a real-life situation.
When it happens near the end of a story, it is known as a twist ending or surprise ending
